August Riska, Ph.D., a native of Czechoslovakia, lives in the USA since Russian Invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968, mostly in Staten Island, NY. He taught Philosophy at St. John's University, NYC from 1970 - 2010. When he retired, he moved to Edgewater, NJ. Already during his childhood years he liked to walk and hike as a Boy Scout and later as a member of various walking Clubs. He enjoys the beauties of nature and travelled around the world.

He visited all states in the USA as well as all Canadian provinces. As a member of the Protectors of Pine Oaks (Staten Island) and Sierra Club he cares very much about the health of our environment. Besides philosophy career he has been a semi-professional jazz bassist and plays also piano and guitar. He has been married to his wife Anita for 57 years. Walking belongs to many things which they enjoy together. They have two children born in Czechoslovakia and five granddaughters.
